Private In-Home Music
Lessons in Atlanta, GA
Frequently Asked
Questions
- At what age is my child ready for music
lessons?
Most of the children that I have taught started between the age of 6
and 8. I think 7 and 8 are ideal ages to start because the children are
old enough focus for 30 - 45 minutes and it will probably be easier to
keep them motivated to practice. Personally I started lessons at 6
years old. However, I was a gifted child who was very highly motivated
(and my mom was very diligent about making me practice).
- Is it harder to learn a new instrument as an
adult?
Although some say that children learn faster than adults, I think
learning is more related to motivation. And many adults have much
higher motivation for learning to play and therefore are able to pick
up an instrument quickly. The biggest difference that I find between
adults and children is that adults have no one to make them practice.
Between work and family obligations it sometimes becomes difficult to
set aside 30 - 60 minutes each day to work on your instrument. Like
exercise, however, even 15 minutes a day will make a difference.
- Do you teach the Suzuki method?
No. I don't offer the Suzuki method.
- Will I need to purchase books?
Yes the student will need to have music books for their lessons. When
you sign up, I will let you know what books will be needed. You can buy
them from me (though you might save a dollar by geting them directly
from your local music store).
- What if I need to cancel a lesson?
Not a problem. As long as you cancel within 24 hours of your lesson
time, then you will be credited for the lesson and even rescheduled if
possible.
- What neighborhoods do you offer in-home
lessons?
Primarily I serve the area in and around the northern perimeter
of Atlanta:
Doraville, Chamblee, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Riverside, Buckhead,
Brookhaven, Lindbergh Station.
I will travel to other areas depending on the schedule and
circumstances. Please contact me to see if I service your neighborhood.
